Our Story

This is the story of how Waymark Church became the church it is today.

What is Waymark?

Maybe you've seen the construction of the new sign on Highway 37, just south of Monett. Maybe you were scrolling on social media and came across a post or a sermon clip. Maybe you just heard the name in the community and asked the question, “What in the world is going on with First Baptist Church, Monett?” What is all the fuss about this “Waymark?” This name comes from the Old Testament Book of Jeremiah 31:21, “Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.”

Merriam-Webster defines waymark as this: an object serving as a guide to someone traveling. What this means is that in everything that we do, we strive to point people to God and be the Waymark in our community.

Why the name Waymark?

Over 17 years ago, FBC Monett purchased land just south of Monett Mo. Based on Jeremiah 31:21 and due to its location right near the highway they called the property "Waymark." As the capital campaign began, it was called, “Windows at Waymark.” On the day the ground was broken, the project was called, “Walls at Waymark.” Finally, in 2011 there was a celebration honoring what God had done and a service here called, “Worship on Waymark.” In April 2021, with obedience to God's will, we adopted the identity of Waymark Church. Through this change of identity we have a new desire to reach out into our community and to share Jesus Christ with a world in need of a savior.

Who is Waymark?

Waymark is a group of imperfect people serving a perfect God. We do this through relevant and applicable preaching, God honoring worship music, and classes/small groups for all ages! With Jesus at the core of everything we do, our mission is to LOVE GOD, LOVE PEOPLE, and to SERVE THE WORLD. We worship Jesus as our Lord and Savior and acknowledge that He is the only way to be made whole in this broken world. We believe that no one is too far gone and that Jesus wants a personal relationship with you, no matter where you've been or what you've done. We believe that we all are individual waymarks, put exactly where God intended, to point people to Him.
